Artist Statement
(Youngest
Artist at the Yates House)
I like to create things with exotic woods, acrylics and
deer antler from around the world. I use a band saw, drill press and
lathe to make pens, pencils and all kinds of desk accessories. I try to
invent different shapes and use many kinds of woods to give the best
variety. This has been a great hobby for me.
I started making pens on a lathe at my friend’s birthday
party. His dad has a workshop and this was the birthday activity for
many years. Now my dad and I have a little workshop of our own. I have
enjoyed selling my pens at many farmers markets. At each market we have
made some improvements and I have learned a lot. We like talking to
people about what they want and try to make pieces that are interesting.
Most of these become a gift to someone special.
