Artist Statement
I started working in paper mache in 1990. I had been
working in clay, but needed to make a birthday present for a friend. I
didn’t have time to wait for the clay to dry and be fired in a kiln.
Instead, I created my creature with wire, paper and recycled materials.
Over the years, I made reptiles, sea creatures, bugs, kangaroos, birds,
elephants, even mermaids and Adam and Eve. For the colors I use tissue
paper applied with paper paste. My pieces are coated with polyurethane,
but are not made to be set outside.
I have shown my work at the Stockley Garden Art Show(Norfolk, VA), the
St. James Art Show (Louisville, KY), and Arts in the Park (Richmond,
VA). My pieces have also been displayed in small art galleries in
Norfolk, Newport News, Florida and Deltaville, VA.
