Artist's Statement

I have always had a fondness for art and though I have done a limited amount of work in the past, earning a decent living took precedence. I retired the summer of 2005 and we bought a home in Hartfield Virginia where I am now planning to devote the majority of my time to my art and fishing. Although I have no formal training in art I have been successful in selling the limited amount of work I was able to do in the past. I work mainly in acrylics and pencil and have previously sold portraits in oils.

I strive for realism in my work and feel I have been successful when a person is attracted to it from afar and yet can approach it and enjoy the fine details up close. I believe that drawing correctly is the first step in creating a good painting. I enjoy painting most anything but have a special fondness for portraits and pets.
